Introduction to SCA for newcomers

On Friday night at 21:30, there will be an introduction meeting for newcomers at the hall in Kassu. Baroness Helena von Eltz will answer any questions you might have about this event or the SCA in general.

Arts and Sciences competition and display

The Arts and Sciences competition and display will be set up in the hall at Kassu (the biggest building). Entrants must sign up with the Kingdom MoAS Mistress Jaelle. She will take the entries on Friday between 19:00 and 22:00 at the main hall and on Saturday after the Crown Tourney is over and until 14:00 at the hall in Kassu.

It would be desirable that those with items in the competition or the display come to talk about their items at display hall on Saturday at 15:30-16:00. All viewers are of course invited to profit from this rare chance to talk with the artisans.

For more information about the competition and display, contact Mistress Jaelle at prizetourney@poukka.org.

Note. If you want to participate in the Arts and Sciences competition, you need to send a letter of intention and your documentation to Mistress Jaelle in advance as follows:

Part 4 of the Kingdom A&S competition will be taking place at crown tourney.
Remember, you can enter just this part - you do not have to enter any other part. You
can enter as a display only, display with feedback or in the competition itself. You do
not have to be present to enter.

If you are going to enter the competition or display with feedback, you must let me
know by sending me an email telling me what you will be entering no later than Friday,
October 3, 2008. However, items in the research paper category are due to me in
electronic format no later than Friday, September 26, 2008. Your documentation in its
final form is due to me no later than Friday, October 10, 2008.

For further information on the competition and entry forms, go to the A&S website at:
http://www.drachenwald.sca.org/Arts/

Or, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to write to me at:
moas@drachenwald.sca.org

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Jaelle,
Kingdom MoAS

Inter Kingdom Archery Competition (IKAC)

See the official IKAC homepage for competition rules.

Cut and Thrust Fencing Demonstration

An introduction to a recent addition to the society and kingdom fencing rules. Cut-and-Thrust Fencing allows the use of percussive cuts and thus a more accurate recreation of the fencing techniques of our period.

The Kingdom Marshal of Fence, Master Cernac, will explain the rules and required safety gear as well as demonstrating how this form of fencing allows for more period rapier play and for free fencing in earlier weapons forms including sidesword, sword and buckler and longsword.

For people wishing to try it out, there will be an opportunity for training, and for freeplay if sufficient protective gear is available. Some extra fencing gear *might* be on hand, but it is advised that male participants who bring their own groin protector have more chance of getting to play...

For further information on the rules and safety gear required, see the kingdom fencing rules at: www.drachenwald.sca.org/files/marshal/fencing/DW_Fencerules_2007_V1.pdf

Prize Tourney

Sunday morning, starting 10AM there will be a prize tourney with prizes (at least) for: the winner of the tourney, best novice fighter (defined as someone who has fought five years or less or who has never won a tourney), and most chivalrous (as decided by the fighters and marshals). The prizes include a steel sword, a book on chivalry and more.

So, if you are coming to the event, and want to fight in a tourney, and can't fight in the crown tourney, here is a chance to fight in another tourney. Or, if you fought in crown tourney, but didn't get your fill of fighting, here is another chance to fight!

So mark your calendar, and remember this as one more reason to come to crown tourney!

If you have any questions about the prize tourney, please contact Mistress Jaelle at prizetourney@poukka.org.
